I thought you might be interested in the following link. Makalu is the 5th highest mountain in the world (Kanchenjunga is the 3rd) and my son Toby is taking part in the Joint services expedition to climb it by the SE Ridge route. Toby, when younger, was a junior TAR and has always maintained his interest in things AR. The expedition arrived in Kathmandu yesterday and should be back by June 17. They are running a daily blog which should be interesting. Toby spent 6mths in Basra last year - although I know where I would prefer him to be, I'm not entirely sure whether Makalu is any safer!!
